LIVE Streaming Video via MOHOC2 Cameras
This past November at Stronghold SOF Solutions, our team attended explosive breaching training alongside the Rangers of Crime Co and The War Club crew.
To enable comms for the event our friend Kyle from Persistent Systems brought enough MPU5 radios and Rugged Display Controllers (RDC) to outfit each man. These systems enabled voice and data for the personnel conducting breaches. To aid in the media gathering efforts, we wanted to enable live video streaming to capture the explosive breaches as they happened. We had some trouble configuring the PTZ Kiosk to enable video streaming, so we took stock of the equipment available to us to see what other options we had to enable this effort.
I realized that I only had my two Silvus StreamCaster radios with me but I also had a new MOHOC 2 IP Camera, with a Protocable single downlead cable designed to power the camera and stream video from a Silvus radio via one cable. Since we only had two radios available, we did not have enough to outfit each man, so given some knowledge about how both of these MANET radios operate, we attempted to integrate both the Silvus StreamCasters and MPU5s into a single network.
We started by mounting a Silvus SC4200 with MOHOC Camera and a MPU5 on a user, and tethered the Silvus to the MPU5 via Ethernet. This enabled the RTSP video feed to flow from the Silvus radio over the MPU5 network, where we were able to view the live video feed from the TOC with an MPU5 and record it for use in media.
Later, we outfitted the breacher with just a Silvus radio and MOHOC in order to streamline the equipment string and reduce his equipment carrying burden, and then separately tethered a Silvus to an MPU5 to act as the bridge for the network. We were successfully able to live stream stable video for hours through the day and night over several days. This is a true testament to the technology in both the Wave Relay routing algorithm and Silvus radios, which enabled this video to flow over both networks with minimal configuration.
